Fresno Vision Center offering free eye exams

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Eye care can be expensive, and not everyone has access to it.

InSight Vision Center in northeast Fresno is taking steps to ensure that no one’s vision is overlooked.

The center is beginning to plan its second Operation Eye Supply event, after seeing the success of the first in April. At the event, people can get free eye exams.

“We wanted to help those less fortunate,” said eye technician Javier Garcia. “Eye exams help ensure that we catch certain diseases.”

Garcia said those with limited access to health care can end up with bad eye conditions that can go undiagnosed for a long time without an annual checkup.

“Some patients who, especially with diabetes, if left unchecked can start to affect vision,” he said. “It can get to the point where they can lose their sight.”

A patient at the April event had cataracts.

“It got to the point where she could barely see her hand in front of her face. So we’ve already had her undergo surgery and she sees a lot better,” Garcia said.

IVC’s mission is to give back to the Central Valley community and plans to hold Operation Eye Supply or similar events every few months.
