Veterans with a visual impairment or vision loss resulting from military service may be eligible for a monthly pension.
The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs recently issued a press release promoting its Blind Veterans Pension program. The outing coincides with Blindness Awareness Month, observed each October.
“Most veterans transition from civilian service with little or no health problems, but not all veterans,†said the brigadier. General Maureen Weigl, who is assistant adjutant general for Veterans Affairs, said in the statement.
“Any veteran with service-related blindness should apply for this benefit and start receiving the monthly bonus they deserve for their service to our country. “
Through the program, eligible veterans receive up to $ 150 per month. Eligible veterans include those who enlisted as residents of Pennsylvania, served honorably, and suffered injury or illness resulting in vision loss during military service.
Prior to applying, veterans must have proof of residency in Pennsylvania at the time of enlistment, a copy of their last military service form DD-214, and their VA disability claim number.
